Our crop plots do double duty — they feed the farm's livestock program and produce coffee and bananas we sell directly. Nothing here is ornamental; every row earns its place.
Starting in the nursery
Coffee and banana starts spend their first weeks in a shaded nursery bed before they are strong enough to transplant. This is the stage where most losses happen if watering is inconsistent, so it gets checked twice a day without exception.
Intercropping by design
We plant bananas alongside our coffee rows deliberately — the banana canopy shades the young coffee plants, keeps soil moisture more consistent, and gives us a second harvest from the same footprint. It is a small change that has measurably improved yields on both crops.
Closing the loop
Maize and pasture grown on the same land feed our poultry and dairy herd, and manure from the animal side goes back into the soil. It is not a large operation, but it is a genuinely integrated one — which is the point of the whole farm.
