Two seasons ago we began intercropping bananas with our Robusta coffee on the eastern plot. The banana canopy shades the young coffee bushes, cuts water loss, and gives us matoke to sell while the coffee matures.
Early results: soil moisture readings are consistently higher between rows, and we have not lost a single coffee seedling to sun-scorch this dry season — a real problem in previous years.
